Sometime in the early 90s, three musicians from the US hardcore/ska collective BombLast decided to play something else on the side. Loud, distorted guitars, trance drumming, electronics with a significant nod towards Kraftwerk, a sound inspired by some of the worse years of the New Romantics, and no vocals: all of this caught the attention of John McEntire, who not only produced Trans AM’s debut album, but also invited them along on tour with Tortoise. Nine albums later — having just released “Thing” — the band enjoys the same cult status. They rarely play live shows, so don’t miss this opportunity. |
